Something I heard about years ago called "Lockdown."

Most people have a pantry full of food and continue to go to the store each week because there's "nothing to eat." Lockdown means eating from the what you already have on hand and not going to the store to buy additional food except for fresh items needed.

I haven't done it in a while because I don't have much cabinet space and keep lots on hand. But I used to do this once in a while and found I saved lots of money.

I can't answer this because there's a fire burning a hole in my pocket right now.

My homesteading friends have pantries full of food but they eat from it and rotate the supply. Some of them only go grocery shopping every six months or even less. Many only use their tax return refunds for purchasing their supplies for the whole year. It needs to be planned.

When I lived in Texas, I went shopping every 6 months except for milk and fresh veggies. EVERYTHING else I had a full 6 month supply. When I get to a point where I am more sure of my job, I am going to do that again.
