I just discovered a blog that I love
BohemainBeachJunque, whose
tagline is "A menopausal mermaid
and a salty dawg on a journey to beach side living with less stuff
more style!" With a witty title and a tagline
like that what was there not to love?
This is how I discovered BohemianBeachJunque. I
was about to reply to a comment in Katlupe's discussion
If You Had To Start Over Today, What
Would You Do? when I came across this reply:

"Interesting that I found this thread today. This is
the beginning of the do-over. Hubby and I sold most of our
junk and put our house on the market. We wandered down to the
nearest coastal town and are living part time in a beach cottage on
wheels.
Last night was the first night I spent here and it was wonderful to
not be surrounded by stuff staring at me.
I work full time and drive a lot. Crystal Beach is right in
the middle of my district, so this was a logical choice for us.
I am, of course, blogging about the transition at www.bohemianbeachjunque.blogspot.com"
Curiosity made me click on Catherine's blog. I did not
recognize Catherine's name, she had no profile picture, so I
figured that she was relatively new to BlogFrog and The Redhead Riter
Community. (Not that I know all 9,561 members
of The Redhead Riter's
Community -- but being an active member here in the
community I can claim to know 9,560 of The Redhead Riter's Community
members -- so I figured Catherine must have been the one member I
missed getting to know!)
So I clicked on Catherine's blog BohemianBeachJunque and read
her post dated Friday, May 4, 2012, called "Finally The
Beginning." Here are the first two lines of that post --
"I just finished my first official beach dinner. A
roasted chicken, grapes and half an avocado." After
reading those two lines, I knew that I had found a woman after my
heart!
I continued reading each prior post, (totally enjoying each one
of them), until I reached the post dated Thursday, March 29, 2011,
The Countdown Has Begun. Here is an
excerpt from that post:
"In seven days most of our worldly possessions will be on
sale in a front yard in the west end of Beaumont, Texas. The
house seems almost cavernous at this point. The entire formal
living room is empty. Wow.
There will need to be a second purge once the house sells but for
now we have reduced our material mania by 2/3rds. The
Victorians used to call shopping and their lifestyle Conspicuous
Consumption. The purchasing of endless bric a brac to put
next to the endless bric a brac they already have.
All for the sake of having it and showing it off. This
thought process is alive and well today if one was to believe the
endless magazines in stores that proclaim shabby, romantic or
vintage on the covers.
I am heavy duty into research about living a life with less.
Living in 400 square feet or less requires a certain mindset most
folks don't have. The trick here is to not begin regathering
once the stuff is gone. I still love going into Pier One,
Kirklands, Home Goods, flea markets and antique shops. I am
getting used to walking out with the just "the experience."
It is a feeling I am getting high on more and more.
With that said I have decided to continue collecting a few
things:"
If you want to find out what Catherine has decided to collect
read
The Countdown Has Begun -- and then continue
reading her other posts! BohemianBeachJunque is a very
well written blog that moved me as well as made me laugh, because
there was so much I could identify with about simplifying one's
life.
Here is my question: Have you ever thought about
simplifying your life? Inquiring minds want
to know!
