Do you ever think about it?

Started by RedheadRiter , author of The Redhead Riter - Witty, Intelligent & Addictive 4/17/2012 11:47:29 AM

Several years before my dad passed away, I started buying him word search puzzles - the kind where you seek for the word and then circle it. We had discussed how it would keep his mind active because it was mental exercise.

  • Do you ever think about improving your mind - pushing it to the limits?
  • Do you feel that your brain gets exercised or are you apathetic about the whole mind-future thing?
  • If you do think it is important, what kind of things do you do to keep your brain active?

I think about it all the time especially since my grandmother and one aunt had Alzheimer's before they died.

My brain is constantly exercised and I never get apathetic about learning.

I do lots of things to keep an active mind:

  1. read
  2. research online
  3. blog
  4. watch documentaries
  5. spend time just thinking and being aware of my surroundings

I am always working my brain ~ by

reading, creating poetry, painting, sketching, searching the internet ~ writing my blog ~ meditation I find is the best thing I can do for mind and body & hope to get back to more yoga practice (again good for mind and body) ~ thanks for getting me to think about it ~ LOL ^_^

I'm currently watching my grandpa go through a very slow moving alzhiemers. I've been watching it for probably ten years now, so yeah, I think about it a lot.

I love learning and never want to be apathetic about it. I think reading is the number one thing I do to keep my mind up. I'm always reading (does nap time count as always?), whether it's news or novel I love to read:).

I read somewhere that to keep your brain active you should do things that you're not used to. Like brush you teeth with your opposite hand, or if you like to read then instead of reading more you should maybe dance. Just do complete opposite of what you do. If that makes any sense.

Since my husband and I are helping my Mom care for my Father who has Alzheimers (they live with us ) and it can be hereditary.. I think about it daily.. I work hard to push my brain the best that I can... I don't want to end up like my Dad... it's a real concern....

My brain never stops. Even when I am in bed, I am thinking of how to do something or how to change something. When I get off my computer, I pick up my kindle and read books that I bought on Amazon that day. I don't take anything that alters my mind or brain in anyway. Be sure to eat lots of things with magnesium in them, leafy greens, seafood, beans, etc.

meg, that makes sense! Like learning a new job or new hobby. I am always learning something new.

Wow Meg! I hadn't heard that before, but I will definitely start doing it!

So magnesium is for brain power. I will have to make sure I get plenty in my diet.
