Have a new blog - Clutter365

Started by Alison , author of Alison Golden — The Secret Life of a Warrior Woman 2/7/2012 7:59:05 AM

I set myself a goal of reducing my house clutter by one item every day for a year.

I take a photo, a few words and post it. Every day! It is the coolest process. Please check it out, leave a comment, like the Facebook page. Even better join me!

Oh decluttering is such a wonderful process of reliving the meories and then letting go!

Besides of that it gives a wonderful spacy house ;-)

It is totally addicting, Paula!

Yes, a good idea. Like I mentioned to you on FB, I have been doing this for awhile now. This year, I have really made progress. The hardest thing is to get rid of sentimental items. But if I give them to a new home of someone who really wants them, then I am happy.

Thanks for your comment, here and on Facebook. I'm very sentimental but photographing them memorializes things for me and that helps.

One thing that makes it easier for me to get rid of things is that I have no one to leave my stuff to when I am gone. I have one son and one stepson. Neither one of them will want my things so they will end up thrown out in the garbage. I saw that happen when my MIL died. Her stuff was gone through by my FIL, BIL and SIL. They tried to sell stuff and found that nothing is worth anything anymore. She had beautiful things but nobody wanted them.

My father gave my mother's stuff to me and I held it as long as I could. But I really NEED the space and those items are not my mother. I have letters and photographs from her and I will not be getting rid of them. She had lots of photographs from the 1930-1950s. Of people I did not know or ever heard of. People that passed through her life. I actually sold a lot of those vintage b & w photos on eBay for $6.99 each! Some for more. Who would think there was a big market for that stuff? I figured she'd like it to know I sold them to collectors. So they live on.

That's very interesting. I wouldn't have thought it either.

That's interesting!  I inherited my grandmother's pictures and also have many I've no idea who they are!  Friends of the family I suppose, long before my time :-)
