How do you save your money?

My blog is about how I am going towards paying off a loan, and one of things I do now to save money is instead of having a go on the lottery is to put in a jar all the pounds would have spent on tickets then come the end of the year I might not have won the lottery but at least I guaranteed my money back.

So what do you do to save money?

I would gladly love some followers to my blog so dare to be the first.

I have a HARD TIME saving money.  I figured out the only way I can save money is to not see it at all.  So, my bank has a program for our debit cards.  When we use it, whatever amount we buy is increased to the next dollar.  That extra goes into a savings account.  For example, when I buy gas, Instead of putting an even 15.00 in my tank, I will purposely put 15.01 and I will receive 99 cents in my savings account.  That is the ONLY way I have been able to save.

I am your first follower. Saving money for me is living frugally. I shop in bulk, I grow a good amount of my own food, I generate my own electric, I work from home and hardly ever drive anywhere, I shop at thrift stores (and most of our stores are free or charge a $2. fee to go in), we heat and cook with wood and I cook from scratch.

some of your stores charge you to shop at them? Amazed!!! is not the word. We have cash and carrys which are supposed to be open only for business's but everyone always gets a friend to get a card for them. But as far as I know, there is not a shop in the UK which charges you to shop there. Sorry still shocked at that, I hope it doesn't become an idea in the UK.

No, not charge you to shop for new things in that type of store. Our thrift stores charge you $2.00 and you can load your truck up as many times as you want. It is considered a donation. A thrift store is a second hand store or used items type of store. But they have really nice stuff. Lots of name brands and some items have never been used.

Sorry if I am not catching your drift here. So you mean you pay 2 dollars and you can fill your basket as much as you can for the 2 dollars. or you pay 2 dollars to shop there and then get greatly reduced goods. Is your thrift store much like our charity shops here in the UK. although the days of bargains at charity stores are long gone as they sell goods for the same if not more than the high street yet get given them free and have volunteers working in them, They feel they can do it because it is for charity !!!

You pay $2.00 to go into the store. They consider it a donation. They you can take whatever you want. For free. They stamp your hand in case you take your stuff out to your car and want to come back in. That way you do not have to pay another $2.00 to go in. If you can not afford the fee to go in, many times someone else will pay it for you. Or the store will just let them in.

There are other thrift stores that just charge for each item you buy. Not the two I go to though. They are closes to me and I go quite often. They sell clothing, housewares, furniture, music, books, etc. Lots of things. I always donate my stuff there since they are so generous.

Kat, and I thought the thrift store here is cheap. Guess that thrift store needs to be included when I visit you! What a treasure
