Hey, what happened to my Premium Membership?

Started by Holly , author of Love and Math | Love, math and everything in between. 5/30/2012 12:04:41 PM

Hi everyone,

As of July 2nd, 2012, BlogFrog will be discontinuing its Premium Membership offering. We are still committed to making it easy for bloggers and their readers to discover, create, and join like-minded communities and provide revenue opportunities by partnering bloggers with their favorite brands. We are discontinuing the Premium Membership and shifting that focus to enhancing our free offering.

So what happens now?

Within the next 5 business days, you'll get an email from PayPal saying that your subscription has been cancelled. This email from PayPal just means that you will no longer be charged for membership. You will still have access to Premium Membership features until July 2nd, 2012. After that date, your BlogFrog membership will simply revert to the standard free membership.

If you are an annual subscriber(paying $39.95/year), you will be given a pro-rated refund and will be contacted directly by our super-friendly Finance VP, Danielle, who will share further details. You will continue to have access to your Premium Features until July 2nd, 2012.

If you are a monthly subscriber(paying $4.95/month), you will no longer be charged once you receive the cancellation notice from PayPal and you will continue to have access to your Premium Features until July 2nd, 2012.

If you were one of the lucky folks who won a Premium Membership via a contest, sweepstakes, or conference give-away, no payment adjustment will be necessary and you will continue to have access to your Premium Features until July 2nd, 2012.

Please let us know if you have questions!

Can you guys give us a run down of what these premium features are that are going away?

Hi Jenny - there were three primary Premium features:

  1. Impressions on sidebar recent visitors widgets
  2. Access to a private BlogStar community (which we've now made public as this community)
  3. Small thumbnail images of your blog that appear on the right side of your replies, discussions, or comments.

All these will be going away.  A special note for you: Since you also have a Platinum membership, you'll get an email soon announcing that we are discontinuing that membership level as well.  Special note:  you will keep the ability to do newsletters to your community members.

Does that help? Happy to answer any other questions!

when are we getting the news letter feature? cause i asked about it, was told to email someone to have mine activated (which wasn't) and i havent heard anything since.

Hi Jenny ("Oh so very me"),

The newsletter function will still be available to users that had a Platinum membership.  So any users who already had newsletters will keep that ability, but it will not be available to other members.  Sorry for any confusion about this matter!

Thanks,

John - BlogFrog Customer Support

soooo... you took away premium membership for everyone to get the cool stuff... and the people who already had it get to keep the cool stuff after you take it away. how does that make sense? kinda lame if you ask me. you should maybe even that out somehow... either give us the stuff or take it away from them?

I'm very confused about the changes. The same day you sent a refund to my paypal account, I've stopped receving daily emails of the communties I subcribe to. Is this feature gone or do I need to set it up all over again. Is there somewhere where we can get more detail as to how BlogFrog works now?

Nothing to be confused about. They refunded everyone who had the platinum/premium accounts and screwed everyone else.

As for your emails you prolly just have to reset them all.

Hi Colleen,

I'm so sorry for the disruption in your email subscriptions. I had our tech team look into whether there could be a connection with the Premium and Platinum cancellations and your subscriptions and their shouldn't be.  You can reset those subscriptions by going to your Communities Tab, click on the Email Subscriptions menu option on the left, and check to make sure you are still subscribed to your favorites.

If you have any problems, please don't hesitate to email our customer service team directly at custserv@theblogfrog.com.

Can you try visiting your email subscriptions and let me know if that works for you? I want to make sure you are getting all the community news!

Hi Jenny,

I know it's a bit confusing but our intention is not to cheat anyone out of great features - really! There is so much more we could do to make the Premium and Platinum features more valuable to those who are willing to pay for them and we decided to shut them down so we could explore providing some of those paid features for free and research how valuable the rest of the functionality was.

Everyone who was paying for Premium or Platinum features either received a refund for the remainder of the year (if they paid annually) or was able to access features until their current monthly payment came due for renewal.  We tried hard to make sure nobody missed out.

The only feature still available to Platinum members is the newsletter feature because many of them have large communities and it is an integral way they communicate with members.  If you have a community and would like to request that feature, please let me know!

Does that help clear up some of the confusion?

Many thanks,

Holly (co-founder, BlogFrog)
